Yoga helps to tone and stretch muscles, increase joint mobility and lung capacity, and encourage deep relaxation. These classes will focus on alignment, breath and overall body awareness. Using a graceful and uninterrupted stream of asanas, you will learn to listen to and respect your body’s needs. This focused, meditative practice both stretches and strengthens the whole body. This class is suitable for beginners and those with previous yoga experience. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Classes will be held at the Legacy Centre, 900 St. Mary's Road. The instructor is Brenda Comaskey (Yoga Centre).

Block Therapy is a revolutionary body work practice that goes deep into the body, releasing connective tissue to correct alignment and posture, eliminating pain and healing injuries. It is exercise, therapy and meditation, all in one. You will learn how to tap into conscious diaphragmatic breathing, increasing the flow of blood and oxygen to your entire body. You will also learn how to melt through areas in the tissue that are holding your body in a negative state. The Block Buddy, a handcrafted tool made out of cedar, is the medium used to facilitate this. Block Therapy is a simple to follow, safe and effective program. It provides the vehicle to allow your body to reconstruct damaged cells, bringing life and health back to the tissue.

Description:
Muscle conditioning can increase muscle tone and metabolism, improve flexibility and decrease body fat. Build and maintain muscular strength, endurance and balance. Classes will include a warmup, muscle conditioning work with hand weights and exercise band, body weight exercises, followed by toning and balancing work and stretches on the mat. Exercises will be modified to meet the needs of individual participants.

PACE is an exercise program created by the Arthritis Society and is ideal for people with arthritis, fibromyalgia and related conditions.

Our certified PACE instructors will help you improve your flexibility, muscle strength, range of motion and endurance without hurting your joints. You are encouraged to exercise either sitting or standing, doing routines that help you to relieve stiffness and improve your posture. Each class finishes with peaceful relaxation time.

Urban Poling

Description:
Urban Poling provides balance and the aerobic and strength building benefits of both walking and an upper body work-out. By adding poles, you can turn a walk into a full body workout using 90% of the body’s muscles. Urban Poling can be done almost anywhere – sidewalks, parks, hiking trails, and indoor tracks in both winter and summer.

This popular form of Nordic walking can be performed by people of all ages. There are particular health benefits for those with osteoarthritis in the knees. Peggy is a Certified Urban Poling Instructor who has avoided knee replacements because of Urban Poling.

Description:
Wen-Do teaches easy to learn and easy to remember methods of protecting yourself. The focus is on awareness, avoidance and action in a wide range of situations, utilizing leverage with bigger, stronger body parts against smaller, weaker ones. Techniques are designed to be used by women of all ages, sizes and physical abilities. A combination of discussion and physical techniques will enhance mental and physical readiness.

Description:
Enjoy an evening of fun while developing a useful and delightful skillset on the dance floor! We’ll cover two dances in this 12-week course, but work on only one dance in each six-week segment so that you can achieve a comprehensive understanding of each one. Emphasis will be placed on technique, posture and poise, lead and follow… which apply to all dances!

Please bring smooth-soled, non-marking shoes.

Couples only please
